The US Women's National Team defeated Colombia for the second time in a week span in the second of two friendlies between the two countries. The game was played in front of a sell-out crowd in Chester, Pennsylvania. The US dominated the run of play with the majority of the match playing out in the Colombian defensive third. USWNT had 22 shots (10 on goal) compared to Colombia's 3 (0 on goal.
Christen Press scored the opening goal in the 26th minute by flicking a Lindsey Horan cross over the on rushing keepers head just inside the 18 yard box. Julie Johnston scored a brace with two beautiful goals off Tobin Heath free kicks.
The US were without starts Morgan Brian and Alex Morgan for the second straight games due to minor injuries but were never truly troubled by the Colombian team that only brought 5 starters back from the 2015 World Cup team that the USWNT saw in the round of 16.
The US had chances throughout the game to expand the lead. Captain Carli Lloyd particularly struggled throughout the match finding the finishing touch. Seventeen year old Mallory Pugh started again and put in a very solid shift and was robbed of an assist to Heath by a nice save from the Colombian keeper.
Overall a solid match for the US in terms of possession but finishing left much to be desired. Johnston was our Player of the Match! Congrats on another win and another shutout!
Check out Johnston's first goal!
